🌞 Vitamin D – Important for Everyone

Everyone in Ireland should take a vitamin D supplement. The amount you need depends on your age, skin tone, circumstances, and the time of year. People with darker skin (e.g. African, African-Caribbean, South Asian) may not make enough vitamin D from sunlight.

Vitamin D is measured in micrograms (µg) or International Units (IU). 1 µg = 40 IU.

You can get supplements from pharmacies in forms like tablets, drops, or sprays. To help your body absorb it, take your supplement with a meal.

For official guidance, see the HSE “Vitamin D” page: hse.ie – Vitamin D HSE.
